Available Routes
Each route represents months of research and field verification. We walk them repeatedly across seasons to understand how terrain changes with weather and light.
Border Crossings
The Anglo-Scottish border isn't a line. It's a zone. For centuries, this was debatable land where legal authority blurred and local power structures operated independently of either kingdom.
Our three-day route follows drove roads used by cattle traders and military patrols alike. You'll walk sections of the Pennine Way, but more importantly, you'll diverge from it onto paths that most contemporary hikers never see.

Coastal Archaeology
Britain's coastline erodes at measurable rates. Every year, new archaeology emerges from cliff faces while other sites disappear into the sea. This five-day walk tracks that boundary between land and water, history and obliteration.
We follow smugglers' routes along the southern coast, visiting abandoned fishing villages and Iron Age promontory forts. The route combines easy beach walking with challenging cliff paths.

Highland Passes
After the Jacobite rebellions, the British government built military roads through the Scottish Highlands to move troops quickly and control the clans. These roads often followed much older paths. Cattle drovers' routes. Viking approach paths. Tracks used by hunters following deer migrations.
This week-long expedition combines military roads with the older routes they superseded. It's our most demanding offering, both physically and in terms of remoteness.

Monastic Networks
Medieval monasteries weren't isolated communities. They formed economic and political networks connected by regular travel routes. Monks, messages, and trade goods moved constantly between houses.
This four-day route links Cistercian abbeys across Yorkshire and Northumberland. The paths we follow connected Rievaulx, Byland, and Fountains Abbey, among others. Some sections cross private land where we've negotiated access specifically for this purpose.
£418.25 per person
Peak District Geology
The Peak District compresses millions of years of geological history into visible layers. Limestone plateaus sit next to gritstone edges with completely different characteristics. Walking from one to the other, you cross time as much as distance.
This two-day intensive focuses on understanding how geology shaped human settlement patterns and route selection. It's shorter than our other offerings but more technically focused.

Custom Route Design
If you have specific historical interests or want to explore a particular region in depth, we design bespoke routes for private groups.
This isn't about luxury customization. It's about matching route characteristics to particular research questions or learning goals. We've designed custom routes for university field courses, historical societies, and private groups with specialized interests.
The process involves consultation, archival research, field verification, and detailed route documentation. Timeline varies depending on route complexity, but expect three to six months from initial inquiry to finalized walk.
